At least six Palestinians have been martyred and dozens wounded in an Israeli army raid in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus.

The Palestinian health ministry said in a statement that six people succumbed to critical wounds sustained on Wednesday after Israeli army troops stormed Nablus and fired live ammunition, the official news agency WAFA reported.

At least 50 of the injured were hit by live ammunition, the ministry said.

The six people martyred were identified as Adnan Sabe’ Baara, 72; Mohammad Khaled Anbousi, 25; Tamer Minawi, 33; Musab Owais, 26; Hossam Isleem, 24; and Mohammad Abu Bakr, 23.

Massive confrontations broke out after the Israeli army raided Nablus with dozens of armored vehicles and special forces at 10 a.m. local time (0800 GMT).

Local sources said a large number of Israeli soldiers raided the Sheikh Muslim neighborhood on the outskirts of the Old City of Nablus and surrounded a house amid heavy gunfire.

Ahmed Jibril, director of ambulance and emergency services at the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Nablus, said Israeli forces are preventing medical staff from reaching the besieged area, where armed clashes are going on.

Israeli forces launch raids on cities across the occupied West Bank almost on a daily basis under the pretext of detaining what the regime calls “wanted” Palestinians. The raids usually lead to deadly confrontations with residents.
