  • Sheikh Khatib's emphasis on the need for Muslims, Christians to resist Western-Zionist colonial project

Pars Today - According to Sheikh Khatib, the West, under the pretext of protecting minorities, seeks to divide the region into sects and tribes in order to use this division to achieve its colonial goals.

In an exclusive interview with the "Al-Ahed" website, Sheikh Ali Khatib, the deputy chairman of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council of Lebanon, emphasized the need for unity among the Islamic Ummah in the current sensitive and historical circumstances.

According to Pars Today, he referred to the complicated and critical situation facing the Islamic Ummah, particularly in the face of the brutal and inhumane attacks on Palestinians, and stated that these aggressions have united the Islamic Ummah in support of the Palestinian cause, which is a global human issue.

Sheikh Khatib emphasized that the unity of the Islamic Ummah is not only a religious principle but also a necessity in terms of expediency.

He said:

The unity of the Ummah is a religious and expedient principle, and at this difficult historical stage, the interest of the Ummah requires that they be united. Especially in this war, whose goal is to break the will of the Ummah, it is necessary to take a united and cohesive stance against the dangers facing the Ummah.

Referring to the ongoing war in Palestine, he stated that this battle is not only a Palestinian-Israeli war but a war for the entire Islamic Ummah.

He emphasized: The war in which the resistance in Palestine is accompanied by the fronts supporting the resistance forces in Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, and Yemen is not just a Palestinian-Israeli war, but a war of the Ummah against the enemies of humanity and principles. This is an existential battle for the Ummah, and there is no room for those who pretend to be peaceful.

Sheikh Khatib also referred to the importance of the role of Christians in the Islamic Ummah and emphasized that when we talk about the Ummah, we do not mean only Muslims.

He stated: Our region has been the place of the descent of prophetic missions and revelation, so it has been religiously diverse since ancient times, from Judaism to Christianity and Islam.

Christians have always played a role in policy-making as ministers and advisors in governments throughout different Islamic periods and have been present and influential in Islamic civilization centers in Baghdad, Cairo, and al-Quds.

He added:

Christians are part of this Ummah, and Christian-Muslim relations have always been excellent. Christians have played a fundamental role in building public life and political decision-making, and they should never be considered separate from the Ummah.

In another part of his speech, Sheikh Khatib referred to the West's efforts to create divisions between Muslims and Christians and said:

The West, under the pretext of protecting minorities, seeks to divide the region into sects and tribes in order to use this division to achieve its colonial goals. But this plan has not succeeded, and what is happening today in Gaza and Palestine is the greatest evidence that the Ummah has stood up and united against these conspiracies.

He also emphasized that taking our country towards sectarian and tribal division is not a normal and natural matter, but rather a planned project. The fear and anxiety that exist today about sectarianism are fabricated, and their goal is to create divisions between sects and divide the region.

This project still exists to justify and consolidate the existence of Zionism in Palestine, because by dividing the Ummah, the enemy will be stronger than the weak.

Finally, Sheikh Khatib, appreciating the role of resistance in confronting the Western-Zionist project to divide the region, emphasized that resistance today is not only standing against a few (Zionist) Jews living in Palestine but also against the global system led by the West.

He noted: Resistance will continue because its goals are linked to the real demands of the people to confront injustice. This is a continuous movement that will remain fresh and alive as long as life exists.
