Pars Today – At dawn on Tuesday, June 9th, the Israeli regime’s military attacked the Gaza-bound aid ship Madleen, preventing it from reaching the shores of Gaza to deliver humanitarian assistance to the people trapped in this besieged enclave.

Twelve human rights activists from various countries aboard the vessel were abducted by the Israeli regime. There was no weaponry or military cargo onboard; instead, the ship carried only food, medicine, and hygiene supplies intended to assist the population suffering under the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza. This act constitutes an obvious crime and maritime robbery, carried out in clear violation of international law and fundamental human principles.

The ship "Madleen", named after a Palestinian girl called Madeleine Kullab, is more than just a humanitarian vessel. Madeline is the first Palestinian girl skilled in fishing within the Gaza Strip, and she lost her father during Israel’s latest assault on Gaza.

This young girl from Gaza, who single-handedly provides for her family's livelihood, lost her boat during the most recent war but continues living with resilience. The ship was named in her honor, commemorating her struggle to support her family. The Madleen embarked on its journey as a symbol of the steadfastness and resistance of the Palestinian people against oppression and siege, carrying a message of global solidarity.

Despite repeated threats from the Israeli regime, the Madleen set sail with the aim of breaking the brutal blockade imposed on Gaza and delivering urgent humanitarian aid to the region’s population.

The Madleen is the 36th vessel in the Freedom Flotilla convoy, which has been attempting to break the Israeli siege on the war-torn and occupied Gaza Strip since 2007.

Aboard the ship were 12 international human rights activists of diverse nationalities:

- Greta Thunberg, Swedish environmental and social justice activist

- Rima Hassan, representative of the European Parliament from the left-wing party "LaFrance Insoumise"

- Omar Faiad, Al Jazeera journalist

- Yanis Mhamdi, French journalist from the media outlet Blast

- Pascal Maurieras, veteran French activist in the Freedom Flotilla

- Thiago Avila, Brazilian journalist and socio-political activist

- Baptiste Andre, French doctor

- Yasemin Acar, Kurdish-German activist

- Reva Viard, French environmental activist

- Suayb Ordu, Turkish activist

- Sergio Toribio, member of the organization “Sea Shepherd” from Spain

- Marco van Rennes, Dutch naval engineering student and crew member

Importantly, the passengers of the Madleen were fully aware of the serious risks involved in their voyage, particularly recalling the Israeli regime’s violent attack on the Mavi Marmara aid ship in 2010, which resulted in the killing of nine activists.

Their action was rooted in humanitarian and compassionate principles; principles often referred to in religious terms as human dignity or freedom-seeking. Their act serves as a reminder of the nobility of humanity that arises from a conscious and committed conscience standing up against injustice, supporting the oppressed, and resisting tyranny.

This movement demonstrates that humanity is not yet forgotten in today’s cruel world, and that human dignity and moral consciousness still live on in many hearts. Furthermore, the Madleen's journey toward Gaza was a deeply symbolic and meaningful act in awakening global public opinion—a move that forced the Zionist regime to confront it with full force.

The seizure of the ship and its passengers clearly proved that resistance remains the only path to reclaiming the rights of the Palestinian people. Any negotiations with a regime that does not understand the language of humanity will lead only to betrayal of the people.

The Madleen not only drew global attention to the tragedy unfolding in Gaza but also further paved the way for a renewed wave of practical global support for Palestinian resistance. The actions of the Zionists have further reaffirmed, more than ever before, the legitimacy of resistance and the necessity of fighting against the occupying regime.
