Israeli regime seeks to implement Lebanon model in Gaza
Pars Today – An Israeli newspaper reported on Monday that the Israeli regime is aiming to implement the “Lebanon model” in the Gaza Strip.
According to Pars Today, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that amid increasing pressure to implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, which includes the deployment of international forces, the Israeli army seeks to change the situation on the ground and apply the Lebanon model. The deployment of international forces would, in effect, limit any military response by Israel to Hamas’s actions.
According to the report, the Israeli army is now trying to impose a new reality on the ground in Gaza before the deployment of international forces, in order to gain greater freedom of action.
Yedioth Ahronoth writes that U.S. pressure to implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement has increased, but Israel is resisting this process, citing Hamas’s failure to return the bodies of three captured soldiers.
Meanwhile, Hamas has so far released 20 living Israeli captives and handed over the bodies of 27 other hostages.
According to the report, the second phase of the ceasefire agreement requires measures to facilitate conditions in Gaza, including the reopening of the Rafah crossing, the expansion of humanitarian aid, allowing movement in and out of the area, and ultimately, a withdrawal to a new line after the establishment of an authority capable of managing the territory.
Yedioth Ahronoth further emphasizes that the Israeli regime is pursuing a policy of a “strong response” to any action in Gaza in order to prevent the reconstruction of Palestinian capabilities.
This comes at a time when, since the ceasefire agreement in October 2025, the Israeli army has violated the truce, killing hundreds of Palestinians and injuring thousands more.
Meanwhile, at the international level, the Israeli regime faces a case of genocide at the International Court of Justice, and arrest warrants have been issued for Benjamin Netanyahu, the regime’s prime minister, and Yoav Galant, former war minister, on charges of war crimes.
