Trump threatens to slap another $300bn tariffs on China
US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose another 300 billion dollars of tariffs on Chinese goods while also expressing hope for a deal with Beijing.
“Our talks with China, a lot of interesting things are happening. We’ll see what happens… I could go up another... at least $300 billion and I’ll do that at the right time,” Trump told reporters on Thursday, without specifying which goods could be targeted by the hikes.
“But I think China wants to make a deal and I think Mexico wants to make a deal badly,” Trump added before boarding Air Force One at the Ireland’s Shannon Airport on his way to France.
Trump has initiated a trade war both on China and Mexico.
He has threatened to impose a five-percent duty on all Mexican goods starting next week.
The trade dispute between Washington and Beijing seem to show no sign of cooling down.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Wednesday that US-China tariffs — whether already implemented or only proposed — could cut global economic output by 0.5 percent in 2020.
