Boosting regional security, Iran's main strategy: Speaker
Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani says maintaining regional security is one of the main strategies of the Islamic Republic, warning that any form of foreign meddling only endangers the region.
“Security is achievable through (cooperation of) regional states and intervention by other countries would give rise to predictable threats,” he said in a meeting with visiting Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi in Tehran on Sunday morning.
“Some regional nations need to change their conduct if they seek sustainable security because their current behavior has paralyzed the region,” he added.
The Iranian parliament speaker further warned against Saudi Arabia’s “protracted war” on Yemen, noting, “The region’s capacity has a limit.”
Larijani further praised Oman’s role in boosting the region’s security as “positive.”
He slammed the US’s withdrawal from the multilateral agreement in 2018 as an insult to many countries, including Iran and Oman.
Larijani pointed to Europe’s failure to live up to its commitments and protect Iran against the American bans, saying, “Unfortunately, the Europeans have not taken any measure (to save the deal) and it seems that they either failed or had no intention (to do so).”
