Poland: One dead, 20 hurt in Warsaw bus crash

One person was killed and five seriously injured in Poland’s capital, Warsaw on Thursday when a city bus crashed down several metres from a flyover, officials said.

According to AFP, a total of 20 people were injured in the accident in which the articulated bus veered off the road after crossing a bridge over the Vistula River.

City mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, a leading contender in a presidential election on Sunday, interrupted his campaign to visit the scene of the crash.

He announced an investigation into the incident.

"One person was killed and 20 were injured," his spokeswoman Karolina Galecka said on Twitter.

Health Minister Lukasz Szumowski told reporters that five people are in serious condition.

Fire brigade investigators said the crash may have been caused by the driver falling ill at the wheel.
