Trump praises Pence for criticism of Jan. 6 media coverage
Former US President Donald Trump has praised former Vice President Mike Pence over his criticism of Jan. 6 media coverage.
During an interview with Fox News on Monday night, Pence described his relationship with Trump as friendly as ever, arguing that their focus should be on the future.
"I can tell you that we parted amicably at the end of the administration, and we've talked a number of times since we both left office," Pence said.
He also accused the US media of exaggeration about the incidents of January 6 in the Capitol.
“I know the media wants to distract from the Biden administration’s failed agenda by focusing on one day in January,” Pence added. “They want to use that one day to try and demean the character and intentions of 74 million Americans who believed we could be strong again and prosperous again and supported our administration in 2016 and 2020.”
Meanwhile, Trump, who is still insisting on his claims of voter fraud eight months after the presidential elections, hailed Pence for his comments in a statement, reiterating that the US media have advertently turned a blind eye on Biden’s shortcomings.
"Vice President Mike Pence’s statement during his interview with the great Sean Hannity very much destroys and discredits the Unselect Committees Witch Hunt on the events of January 6th," Trump noted. "It will continue anyways, however, because the Fake News doesn’t want to focus on Afghanistan, Russia, Taiwan and China, the Border, inflation, and a failing economy."
Trump's praise of Pence comes nearly nine months after ties between the ex-president and his VP soured over the latter’s refusal to acknowledge claims of a “stolen election.”
The former vice president also expressed regret about the Capitol events on Jan. 6, stressing that those events deprived the American people of a substantive discussion about election integrity in Congress.
