Pars Today - On the eve of the United Nations General Assembly session in September 2025, France, Australia, Canada, and Britain have announced their intention to officially recognize Palestine as an independent state.

France is the first major Western country to make such an unconditional commitment, while Australia, Britain, and Canada have set conditions for recognizing Palestine, such as the non-participation of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the future government. These decisions were made against the backdrop of increasing humanitarian pressure in Gaza and global calls for a ceasefire. According to Pars Today, citing the Mehr News Agency, more than 145 UN member states have previously recognized Palestine, either explicitly or implicitly, as an independent state—an action that has reflected decades of anti-colonial solidarity, human rights, and the demand for justice. Asian, African, and Latin American countries have been at the forefront of this process.

While these declarations are symbolic, some analysts say it is time for these symbols to turn into practical commitments to elevate the status of Palestinians, at least within the UN, from an observer to a full member. However, this will be difficult without the approval of the Security Council and the lifting of vetoes by certain powers.

Nevertheless, these efforts also show that the international legitimacy of the Israeli regime is gradually being questioned even among its former allies—a situation that could significantly impact regional and international policies.

What is certain is that the majority of UN members in this year's General Assembly, as they have repeatedly stated in previous sessions, will express their opposition to the Zionist regime's domination over the Palestinian people.

However, it is unlikely that the Zionist regime will be influenced by these demands, at least for now. At the same time, the persistent obstinacy of the Zionist regime in the face of increasing global condemnation, even among its closest allies, is unacceptable. Just as sustained international pressure on the South African government helped end the apartheid regime there, global public opinion must continue to exert pressure on the Zionist regime.
