Pars Today – The British newspaper The Guardian reported that thousands of American citizens are seeking to change their citizenship due to the policies and what it described as the authoritarianism of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Pars Today, The Guardian began its report with the story of an American citizen named “Margo.” It wrote that when she attempted earlier this year to renounce her U.S. citizenship, she was unable to do so in the United Kingdom, where she currently resides. In many European cities, the waiting list for American citizens seeking to change their nationality is now six months long.
According to The Guardian, in the 2000s the number of American citizens renouncing their citizenship each year was in the hundreds; since 2014, this number has reached the thousands. It is expected that even more people will take this step this year.
