Pars Today – The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced that since the beginning of the war in October 2023, 262 journalists and media workers have been martyred in the enclave.

According to Pars Today, citing the Palestinian news website Arab 48, the Government Media Office in Gaza said in a statement issued on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day (May 3) that since the outbreak of the war in Gaza in October 2023, 262 journalists and media workers have been martyred and 420 journalists have been injured in the strip.

According to the statement, the injuries included severe wounds resulting in amputations and permanent disabilities. It also said that since that time, around 50 journalists have been arrested under the harshest treatment. Three journalists remain missing, and according to the office, their fate remains uncertain.

The Palestinian body stressed that these actions constitute a clear violation of the rules of international humanitarian law and could be considered a war crime.

The Government Media Office in Gaza called on the international community, as well as media and human rights organizations, to take immediate and practical steps to stop the targeting of Palestinian journalists, ensure urgent international protection for them, and prosecute those responsible for these actions in relevant international courts.

The office also held Israel directly responsible for targeting, killing, and arresting journalists, emphasizing that the international community’s silence regarding these actions represents a dangerous weakening of the international justice system.
