Pars Today – Russia’s ambassador and permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna said that the U.S. request for the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities is in contradiction with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

According to Pars Today, Mikhail Ulyanov, in a message posted on X, reacted to U.S. demands to eliminate Iran’s nuclear facilities by writing: “Why should Iran accept this U.S. demand? This request is in contradiction with the NPT. It seems that Washington does not care at all about preserving the integrity of the nuclear non-proliferation regime.”

Previously, Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, emphasized that the U.S. approach—including negotiating from a position of strength and threatening the use of force—would not be effective against Iran.

He said: “The United States is accustomed to negotiating from a position of power, threatening the use of coercive force, or escalating sanctions. It is clear that this method does not work in the case of Iran. The best course of action for the United States under current circumstances is to abandon all these elements, which resemble extortion and the setting of ultimatums.”
