Pars Today — China’s president warned, during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing, against any moves by Washington regarding the island of Taiwan, saying that any mistake could lead to confrontation between the two countries.
According to Pars Today, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, in a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing, warned that Washington’s improper handling of the Taiwan issue could drive the two countries toward confrontation and even war, dangerously undermining China–U.S. relations. He emphasized that Taiwan’s independence is incompatible with peace on the island.
Beijing considers Taiwan an inseparable part of the People’s Republic of China and views adherence to the “One China principle” as a necessary condition for countries wishing to establish or maintain diplomatic relations with China. U.S. arms sales to Taiwan have long been one of the main sources of tension between Washington and Beijing.
