Pars Today – The U.S. House of Representatives approved a resolution concerning President Donald Trump’s war powers, calling for an end to U.S. military strikes against Iran—a measure that passed with support from Democrats and a number of Republicans.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday night local time passed a resolution on the war powers of U.S. President Donald Trump, aiming to halt U.S. military attacks against Iran.

The resolution was approved by a vote of 215 in favor to 208 against. During the vote, several Republican lawmakers joined Democrats in supporting the measure. Following the result, applause was heard in the House chamber.

House Speaker Mike Johnson had previously sought to block the resolution. Two weeks earlier, as the proposal was nearing a vote, he abruptly removed it from the House agenda.

However, the continuation of the war against Iran and the Trump administration’s difficulty in finding a swift resolution have fueled growing opposition within U.S. political circles. According to the report, the prolonged conflict has led to increasing dissatisfaction among lawmakers and the public.

In this context, Democratic Representative Jared Golden of the state of Maine, who had voted against the measure in its three previous attempts, reversed his position this time and joined supporters of the resolution—helping build broader consensus among Democrats.

The U.S. Senate had earlier, in May, introduced a similar bill to limit presidential war powers regarding Iran, which received support from four Republican senators and nearly all Democrats. However, the timing for Senate consideration of the House-approved measure has not yet been determined.

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries voiced support for the bill, stating that “this reckless and costly war must end today.”

Meanwhile, Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote on her X account on Wednesday that Donald Trump’s war with Iran has so far cost American families $100 billion, adding that this amounts to approximately $750 per household.
