Pars Today – Former U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton criticized the agreement between Washington and Tehran, saying that Iran, by recognizing Donald Trump’s strong desire to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, secured greater concessions.

According to Pars Today, Bolton said in an interview with Euronews that Iran gained the upper hand in the negotiations after realizing Trump’s desperation to reach a deal to end the war, allowing Tehran to secure terms that were far more favorable to itself.

He added that the framework of the agreement benefits Iran and that the U.S. president prioritized economic considerations over strategic ones.

Bolton further said that Trump was not thinking about the strategic and geopolitical consequences of the agreement, adding: “He wants only one thing: keeping the Strait open, allowing Gulf oil to reach global markets, and lowering gasoline prices. That is the only thing that matters to him.”

Bolton said Tehran had made an accurate assessment of Trump’s position, adding that the U.S. president was strongly seeking an agreement and that “they were able to influence him.”
