Pars Today – Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

According to Pars Today, quoting IRNA, the text of the Memorandum of Understanding on ending the U.S.-Zionist regime's imposed war against the Islamic Republic of Iran was signed in the early hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026 (28 Khordad 1405) by the presidents of Iran and the United States.

Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Donald Trump, President of the United States, signed the text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding digitally and remotely within a short time frame.

Given Pakistan's role as the mediator in the diplomatic process leading to the Islamabad understanding, Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, will also sign the text of the memorandum.

Meanwhile, Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced the news early Thursday morning on a television program, saying: "The text of the Memorandum of Understanding was signed in both Persian and English."

Referring to the change in the signing procedure—from an in-person meeting in Switzerland to a virtual signing—Esmaeil Baghaei added: "Over the past 24 hours, following consultations, we reached the conclusion that it would be better for the text of the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by the presidents of Iran and the United States without the need for physical presence." According to Baghaei, one of the reasons for this decision was to increase the political cost of violating the agreement in the event of direct signing by the leaders of the two countries.

Regarding the next meeting in Switzerland, he said: "The next phase of negotiations will begin after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, and holding the Switzerland meeting remains on the agenda, but the final decision will be announced after consultations with the mediators.
