Pars Today – Turkey’s foreign minister has said that European leaders are beginning to recognize Israel’s threat to the region and to international security.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with The National following the NATO summit:
“The policies of Netanyahu’s government are not only our problem; they are also a burden on Tel Aviv, the region, and international security, and they constitute a threat to all of them.”
Asked whether the recent escalation in rhetoric could lead to a direct confrontation between Turkey and Israel, Fidan replied that there is no justification for a full-scale conflict.
He added that European leaders are increasingly recognizing the threat posed by Israel, but have not yet found a way to confront it.
He warned that any attempt to obstruct progress in Syria could alter the current situation.
Fidan continued:
“We are not sure that Israel wants to see a stable, strong, transformed, and prosperous Syria.”
Responding to a question about whether Israel is seeking to destabilize the Syrian government, he said:
“When you look at the past and present behavior patterns of the Israeli cabinet toward the countries of the region, the answer is yes.”
Fidan also stressed the need to increase international pressure on Israel to ensure that more humanitarian aid reaches the Palestinians.
The Turkish foreign minister further stated that the time has come for the countries of the region to take responsibility for their own problems and demonstrate their commitment to addressing them.
