Macron: France faces unprecedented wildfire crisis; "We must endure"

Pars Today – French President Emmanuel Macron has said that France is facing an unprecedented wildfire crisis and warned that the coming weeks will be extremely challenging.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Macron said on Monday that France is confronting an "unprecedented" wildfire and urged the nation to remain resilient.

"We must mobilize in the face of this unprecedented wildfire," Macron said.

He acknowledged the hardships facing the public, saying, "I know life is difficult. There is anxiety, crops have been destroyed, and fuel is expensive. I know the past few days have been extremely difficult."

Macron added that France will ultimately have to adopt a different approach to reforesting its woodlands in response to increasingly destructive wildfires.

The wildfire, which broke out on Wednesday near Saumos in the Gironde department, has burned approximately 42,000 hectares of land and forced nearly 220,000 people to evacuate their homes. According to reports, 84 firefighters have been injured while battling the blaze.

As much of southern Europe endures another wave of intense and unprecedented heat, France has also recorded more than 5,700 excess deaths during the June heatwave.

France's national public health agency announced last week that between June 17 and July 2, the country registered 5,764 more deaths than usual, with the highest increase occurring among people aged 75 and older.
