Foreign Affairs: United States should leave West Asia

Pars Today – Criticizing decades of U.S. military presence in West Asia, the American magazine Foreign Affairs described the war against Iran as the latest sign of the failure of this strategy, arguing that the extensive deployment of U.S. troops and military bases has not only failed to guarantee Washington's security or that of its allies, but has also drawn the United States into costly and endless wars.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Foreign Affairs described the war against Iran as a "full-scale disaster", writing that the United States and Israel had launched an unnecessary campaign that violated international law and further aggravated the crisis in the region. Meanwhile, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has triggered a surge in energy prices worldwide.

Foreign Affairs added that the war was the consequence of a series of U.S. foreign-policy decisions over the past 35 years that had not only failed to enhance U.S. security but had also intensified conflicts across West Asia. The roots of these failures, it argued, should be sought in America's extensive military presence in the region—a presence that has led Washington to believe it must continually engage in regional wars and conflicts to ensure its own security.

The magazine stressed that decades of costly U.S. wars and interventions have claimed countless lives and consumed vast resources without delivering any significant gains for American security. Therefore, the time has come for the U.S. military to leave West Asia.
