Lavrov condemns assassination of Iran's Leader at UN

Pars Today – The Russian foreign minister has condemned the assassination of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution and other officials in his address to the UN General Assembly.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, condemned the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, as well as other Iranian figures and representatives, describing it as an “unacceptable display of dictatorship and force.”
Lavrov also condemned attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
He continued: “Targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities dealt an irreparable blow to the credibility of the International Atomic Energy Agency.”
Referring to recent developments in the region and continued tensions following the US aggression against Iran, the Russian foreign minister said the confrontation in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz must be resolved.
He stressed: “Repeated armed conflicts in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are continuing and harming navigation and global trade. Resolving this crisis requires building trust between the Arab countries of the region and Iran.”
Lavrov, referring to the abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by the United States, said: “We call for the immediate release of the Venezuelan president and his wife and for preventing such abuses from happening again.”
He also stressed that the United States must lift its blockade and trade restrictions against Cuba.
The Russian foreign minister went on to refer to developments in West Asia and, addressing Israeli crimes in the West Bank, said: “The situation in the West Bank is deteriorating as Israel has intensified its settlement activities.”
Lavrov also referred to Europe’s destructive role in the Ukraine crisis, saying Europe is doing everything it can to undermine prospects for peace talks on Ukraine, which the United States is also interested in pursuing.
