Satellite signals detected from missing Argentinean submarine

Argentina’s Defense Ministry has said that it has picked up emergency signals from the country's 44-crew submarine that went missing in the South Atlantic a few days ago.

According to Press TV quoting the ministry on Saturday, seven satellite-transmitted signals thought to be from the ARA San Juan which has been missing since early Wednesday have been detected.

"Right now, we are working to pinpoint the exact location of what is emitting the signals," said a statement released by the ministry.

Brazil, Britain, Chile and the United States are currently helping in the search for the missing submarine.

"We will do what is necessary to find the submarine as soon as possible," tweeted Argentine President Mauricio Macri.

One of the ship’s crew is the country’s first female submarine officer, 35-year-old weapons officer Eliana Krawczyk.

The vessel was built by Germany's Thyssen Nordseewerke and launched in 1983, and was refitted between 2007 and 2014. It is one of the countries three ship submarine fleet.
