Leader’s speech at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum (1)

Welcome to the first edition of our two-part programme on the memorable speech of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the mausoleum of the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (God bless his soul) in Tehran on June 3, the 27th passing away anniversary of the Late Leader.

Millions of devotees from throughout Iran were present at the ceremony, which was also attended by guests from several world countries, as well as the foreign diplomatic staff in Iran.

The Leader renewed his and the nation’s allegiance to the Founder of the Islamic Republic, and in his speech elucidated the characteristics of a real revolutionary person who has grown up in the School of Imam Khomeini. He said the life of the Late Imam was entirely devoted to God, was at the service of the people, and resolved to the achievement of the revolutionary path he had charted out for materialization of the genuine teachings of Islam. At the same time, the Imam was humble and regarded himself as a servant of the Prophet and the Infallible Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt. Servitude to God and obedience of divine commandments is the highest characteristic of a true believer. As Ayatollah Khamenei said, the Best of creation was Prophet Mohammad (blessings of God upon him and his progeny), whom all Muslims regard as the model-par-excellence for molding their life upon. The unrivalled greatness of the Prophet of Islam is evident by the testimony borne by all believers while performing the daily ritual prayers in which the phrase is recited: Mohammad is the Servant and Messenger of Allah. The Late Imam Khomeini strove in the footsteps of the Prophet of Islam to make the Islamic Revolution triumph in the face of the anger of the materialist powers. As a matter of fact, he said, although Imam Khomeini is physically not present in our midst, his name spells awe for the arrogant powers, who continue to shiver at the mention of Islamic Revolution.

Ayatollah Khamenei said Imam Khomeini liberated Iran from the yoke of the hegemonic powers by establishing the dynamic Islamic system of government in Iran. He thus saved Iran from many quagmires, such as the quagmire of political deviation, quagmire of dependence on foreign powers, quagmire of humiliation, quagmire of moral corruption, quagmire of scientific, economic and technological backwardness, and last but not the least the quagmire of Iran’s servitude to Britain and the US. And through his revolutionary stands tremendously transformed Iran and the fate of the Iranian people. Ayatollah Khamenei said Imam Khomeini placed “governance of the religion of God” as the main objective of the Iranian nation, in order to materialize the egalitarian concepts of social justice, eradication of poverty and ignorance, end of oppression and social vices, promotion of Islamic values, ensuring of the society’s spiritual health, attainment of the scientific progress of the country, activation of the country’s potentialities, and safeguarding of national identity and dignity as well as international prestige.

Ayatollah Khamenei said: Although reaching these objectives takes time and requires efforts, they are achievable and the requirement for their materialization is to move on the path of the Revolution charted out by Imam Khomeini. He said the Muslim people of Iran have offered great sacrifices for the Islamic Revolution to obtain startling political, cultural, economic, social and scientific achievements.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said the real revolutionaries are those who are committed to five main points, that is, the fundamentals values of the Islamic Revolution; religiosity and political piety; striving to achieve the ideals; resolve to protect Iran’s total independence; and alert towards the plots of the enemies in order to thwart them. An indicator in this regard is to differentiate truth from falsehood with firm belief in genuine Mohammad Islam as opposed to the American version of Islam. American Islam, said the Leader is made up of two sub versions, that is, reactionary Islam and secular Islam, both of which are supported by Global Arrogance. On the characteristics of true Islam, he said it covers both the personal beliefs and dedication to the values of the Islamic system. He added: It is the Islam that determines both my and your duty in the family, and our duty as citizens in the society. It also determines our duty towards the Islamic system and strengthening of the Islamic system. Ayatollah Khamenei said in the Islamic establishment, people’s vote, as well as their demands, objectives and interests are essential. He underlined the other examples of the fundamental values of the Islamic Revolution as “progress, change and evolution”, adding: A revolutionary individual believes in this value and seeks improvement and change in the conditions on a daily basis.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that in the School of Imam Khomeini, support for the underprivileged and oppressed strata of the society, along with support for the world’s oppressed people, is essential. Imam Khomeini as the Sage of the Age completely transformed Iran, and bequeathed to the nation a dynamic system of government, on which we will elaborate more in the second and last part of the main features of the Leader’s memorable speech at the mausoleum of the Father of the Islamic Revolution on his 27^th passing away anniversary.
