Leader’s speech at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum (2)

This is the second and concluding part of excerpts from the memorable speech of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyyed Ali Khamenei at the mausoleum of the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (God bless him) in Tehran on June 3, the 27th passing away anniversary of the Late Leader.

Millions of devotees from throughout Iran were present at the ceremony, which was also attended by guests from several world countries, as well as the foreign diplomatic staff in Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei said a truly revolutionary person possesses five main characteristics, which are: “commitment to the fundamentals values of the Islamic Revolution; striving to materialize the goals and objectives of the Islamic Revolution; faith in Iran’s total sovereignty and independence; alertness against the enemy, coupled with the resolve to confront it; and last but not the least religious and political piety. In the previous programme we discussed the commitment to the fundamentals values of the Islamic Revolution.

As for the second point, that is striving to materialize the goals and objectives of the Islamic Revolution, the Leader called for relentless efforts in this regard, without being contented with the status quo. He added that efforts ought to be coupled with firm will or else the goals will remain elusive. A true revolutionary never yields to pressures, whatever the obstacles thrown by the enemies. In the scientific field, he praised Islamic Iran’s spectacular progress, but said we should not rest on past laurels or show any lax attitude in this regard, otherwise our pace of progress will slacken and we will lag behind. What the Islamic Republic of Iran needs is use its scientific achievement for further progress.

The third important characteristic of a revolutionary person faith in the country’s sovereignty and independence, which Ayatollah Khamenei said is based on three perspectives, that is political, cultural and economic. He drew attention to the plots of the enemies, particularly the US, noting: They do not always come forward with threats. Sometimes they speak smilingly and in a flattering way. For example they write letters offering to tackle global issues with our cooperation. Prudence and political insight requires, said the Leader, we should be on guard against such temptations for cooperation with a superpower concerning international issues, since the enemy is pursuing sinister designs and its game-plan is already drawn and differs from Iran’s policies for the region.

For instance, Ayatollah Khamenei said that when the US insists on Iran’s assistance for defusing the crisis in Syria, it merely intends to use Iran’s power and influence in the region to its own advantage and for materializing its own nefarious objective that are detrimental to Iran, the Iranian people, and the people of Syria and the region. Ayatollah Khamenei warned against succumbing to US temptations, which would only aid and abet the American, and are violation of Iran’s national sovereignty and total independence.   

Islam is a religion which is based on clear conscience and dynamic ideas, which makes the cultural independence of the country a very important, said Ayatollah Khamenei, adding: that a true revolutionary is firmly attached to the Iranian-Islamic lifestyle, and is opposed to aping and emulation the decadent norms of the West and other foreigners. It should be noted that for several years, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has been warning of the threat of the western cultural assault, and in his recent speech referring to the impacts of the new tools of the mass media, he said: Of course these tools could prove helpful to us, but we should make sure that these modern-day instruments do not lead to the domination of the enemies.

For instance, we must make sure through practical efforts that the cyberspace will not lead to infiltration and cultural dominance of the enemy. He said that as long as a country is dependent in terms of economy, it cannot preserve well its political and cultural independence; therefore economic self-sufficiency is vital since it plays an important role in maintaining the independence and dignity of the nation. The Leader defined economic independence as the bastion against the infiltration of the big powers, whatever the pretexts of the West and the US, on the so-called integration into the global economy.

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the US officials remarks that the nuclear deal must integrate Iran’s economy into what they call global community. That means Iran must be swallowed into the ‘scheme and system designed by mainly Zionist capitalists for controlling the world’s financial interests. Ayatollah Khamenei said the “Economy of Resistance” is the only option for materialization of the country’s economic independence.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution then referred to the fourth characteristic of a true revolutionary that is alertness against the enemy’s plot, and the resolve to confront and thwart them. This requires that we monitor every move of the enemy and analyze its objective, in order to make the country efficient enough to thwart such designs. He was critical of those who turn a blind eye to the enemy’s hostilities as “illusions”.

He said the domineering powers are avowed enemies of the Islamic Revolution, and their real nature is evident through their support for terrorism, suppressing of freedom-seekers, oppression of the Palestinian people and warmongering attitude towards countries that follow independent policies. Other examples of their crimes against humanity range are their support for dictatorial, such as their backing of the despotic Pahlavi regime against the Iranian people and their assistance to the tyrant Saddam’s repressive Ba’th minority regime against the Iraqi people.

Today, the US is openly backing the massacre of the people of Yemen. In such circumstance, it will be a big make to trust the US, as over the recent years some movements and countries found out to their own detriment by cooperating with Washington on the pretext of political prudence. Now they are paying the price of their folly in trusting the Americans.

The 5^th and last characteristic of a true revolutionary is religious and political piety. The Leader said: Religious piety means making efforts for materialization of all objectives of Islam for the benefit of the individuals and the society, such as social justice, support for the deprived and oppressed people, confronting the oppressors.  Political piety means being alert to the enemies’ plots. In conclusion the Leader of the Islamic revolution stressed that in the roadmap sketched out, the late Imam Khomeini stands at the apex of the pyramid and should be followed as the ideal and perfect example of the Leader.
