One of the important aspects of the life of Prophet of Islam was his enthusiasm in worship of God.

Establishment of a bond with the one and only creator of the world, God Almighty, was the most interesting deed, in the view of Prophet Mohammad. Throughout the night, the Prophet got up, and prayed to God after ablution, and recitation of a number of ayahs of Holy Quran.

The Prophet’s wife, Umm-e Salamah, noted at midnight she saw the prophet, praying at a corner of the house. He had raised his hands, while tearfully praying to God, and whispering: Dear God, do not take away the blessings you have bestowed upon me, and do not gladden my enemy. Do not beset me with the scourges, you have saved me from, and do not let go of me even for a blink of an eye.

The Prophet’s wife went on to add that upon hearing these remarks, she told the Prophet he was forgiven. In response the Prophet pointed out that no one is needless of God.

According to the First Infallible Imam of Prophet Mohammad’s Household, Imam Ali (Peace be upon him), the Prophet’s top priority was to observe daily prayers.

Whenever the Prophet observed prayers individually, he carried out lengthy genuflections and prostrations. However, whenever he attended congregational prayers, he spent an ordinary amount of time for genuflection and prostration.

The 4th Infallible Imam of the Prophet of Islam’s Household, Imam Sajjad (Peace be upon him), also pointed out the enthusiasm of Prophet Mohammad in worship of God and observation of prayers, such that the Prophet’s feet were swollen. They asked the Prophet what the reason was behind the Prophet’s lengthy prayers, while his past and present was divinely blessed. In response, the Prophet noted that shouldn’t he be grateful to God?

It has been noted that the Prophet of Islam was indifferent toward worldly assets and wealth. The Prophet sat on the floor to eat food, patched his shoes and clothes himself, and distanced himself from the worldly glitters. The Prophet maintained a huge wealth after his marriage with Hazrat Khadija (SA). However, the Prophet had no intention of accumulation of wealth and spent all of his earnings for the well-being of others, and assistance of the needy. In this manner, the Prophet presented a role model of positive and constructive piety. His piety is the devoutness of those, who make Halal earnings and have no interest in accumulation of wealth.

True piety is a phase of faith in God which is attained as the result of awareness, determination, and discretion of the individual. Based on history, the Prophet of Islam had the means to maintain materialistic attractions. Qoraish tribal leaders, in a futile bid to derail the Prophet from his righteous path, were prepared to hand over all sort of worldly blessings to the Prophet. However, the Prophet of Islam had no interest in worldly attractions and upheld his piety and devoutness. The Prophet remembered God in any moment of his life. He also wanted the entire Ummah to benefit from his deeds, and didn’t take his personal interests into account in the tasks which he carried out.

There are several Islamic narrations on the piety of Prophet Mohammad (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny), and his simple lifestyle.

The Prophet was also trustworthy and maintained his trustworthiness even with disbelievers and polytheists. Hence, upon the divine appointment of Prophet of Islam, even his enemies remained certain about the trustworthiness of the Prophet. Hence, when the Prophet decided to migrate from Mecca to Medina, he called on the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali, to remain in Mecca for a while to deliver the trusts to their rightful owners.

There are several accounts on the trustworthiness of the Prophet of Islam. For instance, throughout the Battle of Khaybar, Muslims faced shortage of food. Muslims had conquered some of Jews’ fortification. But, the fortification in which food was stored remained at the hands of Jews.

In the meantime, a shepherd who worked for the Jews approached the Prophet and asked Prophet Mohammad to inform him about the truth of Islam. Upon listening to the blessed remarks of the Prophet, this shepherd converted to sacred religion of Islam. Afterwards, the shepherd said that all the sheep belonged to the Jews of Khaybar, while asking the Prophet what he should do now that his ties with the owners of these sheep had been severed.

In response, the Prophet, before the eyes of hundreds of hungry soldiers, pointed out that betrayal of trust is one of the worst sins in sacred religion of Islam, and instructed the shepherd to deliver the sheep to their owners. Meanwhile, the shepherd also immediately complied with the Prophet’s instruction.
