US State Department makes baseless claims against Iran (12)

The US president, Barack Obama, who accuses other countries of breach of human rights, has trampled upon the rights of many world nations, and has imposed unfair policies upon them, in a bid to fulfill his personal interests.

International sanctions are a countermeasure approach to pile up pressure on a country. Many objections have been leveled against the legitimacy and efficiency of international sanctions. For instance, this means is used only by powerful states against other countries.

Thus, the imposition of sanctions should not lead to violation of human rights and the related rules and regulations.

Given these principles, the imposition of unilateral sanctions against Iran by the US violates peaceful coexistence of nations. In accordance to the said principles, governments are duty-bound to comply with international rights, namely equality of rights of world countries; non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations; maintenance of amicable cooperation; and respect for the independence and territorial integrity of the world countries.

Based on this viewpoint, the sanctions imposed by the US are illegitimate and unjustifiable

The US upon intensification of embargoes against Iran, once again showed its enmity and hostility toward Islamic Iran, and violated human rights and international rules and regulations by pressing the Iranian nation.

The US and a number of its cohorts made strenuous efforts to impose paralyzing sanctions against Iran to somehow change Iran’s conduct in favor of their sinister goals, but to no avail.

After the victory of Islamic Revolution in Iran, the US tried to sabotage Iran’s scientific development. Imposition of bans on academic communications, and publication of Iran’s scientific articles in the well-known journals, and obstruction of attendance of Iranian thinkers and experts in global seminars have been some of the hostile measures taken by the US against Iran.

The sanctions were imposed on different domains, including the exchange of foodstuff, medications, and industrial items, which dealt heavy blows on the economy, and inflicted physical harms on patients and the vulnerable strata.

Prohibition of sales of medications, which are needed by many patients, is another prime example of violation of human rights of the Iranian nation by the US. These unjust measures enraged many activists in the global scene.

Pharmaceuticals Industry is one of the most important industries in the world because it deals with the health and survival of the community. Given that this industry is monopolized by a few states; many of the vital medications are monopolized by one or two American and European companies, and were therefore difficult to find and bought at a high cost, throughout the sanctions era. Meanwhile, in some domains, such as the medications needed by cancer patients, the Iranian scientists managed to produce some of these medications which were previously only made by a few countries, thereby moving toward Iran’s self-sufficiency in this realm.

Meanwhile, financial sanctions were also imposed on Iran, such as imposition of sanctions on Central Bank of Iran, and obstruction of hard currency and monetary exchanges. These sanctions piled up pressure on Iran’s monetary and banking exchanges.

Moreover, sanctions were imposed on Iran’s shipping lines and ports. This type of sanctions is usually only imposed amid wars. In the history of international relations, these sanctions are only enforced when a warring party has dastardly intended to obstruct access of the other warring party to food and medications; thereby obstructing the entry of ships to the targeted country’s ports. Currently, the Zionist regime has adopted this approach by sieging Gaza, and the Saudi regime makes use of this approach in its war on Yemen. The goal of such sanctions is to press the people of a country to submit to the enemy.

Undoubtedly, the US unilateral sanctions violate global peace and security. The sanctions imposed by the US also breach the principles of international relations, and the right of nations for economic growth. In fact, these sanctions violate World Trade Organization rules and regulations.

Based on the global criteria of human rights; stated at the UN Charter, and Universal Declaration of Human Rights, if economic sanctions would lead to hardships and suffering of human beings, they are not justified in the view of international law.

The illegitimate sanctions imposed by the US on Iran in fact highly resemble terrorist operations, because they have targeted the ordinary citizens of a country.

The usage of sanctions by the US as a means for advancement of its political goals in other countries, including Syria, has brought about catastrophic results.

According to Counterpunch Website, a report released by UN and non-governmental organizations, on May 15, 2016, has revealed that roughly seven million people have been internally displaced in Syria; half of which are children. Moreover, over two million Syrian children and teenagers are exposed to ailments, malnutrition, and persecution. In Syrian rural regions, one out of every twenty children suffers from acute malnutrition. The US measures in obstruction of banks from rendering services to charity organizations active in Syria, has severely sabotaged the relief efforts in that war-torn country.

Obama administration admits that closure of the bank accounts of charity organizations is a problem. Nonetheless, the US statesmen refuse to end their anti-human measures in order to fulfill and materialize their illegitimate interests. In the meantime, the US State Department ironically and brazenly accuses other countries of breach of human rights.
