Iran signs the Genetic Resources Treaty
Pars Today- The Islamic Republic of Iran joined the group of countries signing this international document on Friday by officially signing the Global Treaty on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge; a treaty that was drafted after two decades of negotiations within the framework of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and is considered a milestone in the field of intellectual property and the protection of biological resources.
"Ali Bahreini", Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, signed the treaty on behalf of the Iranian government at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization. With the signing of this international document, Iran has become the 42nd country to sign the Global Treaty on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge.
The Treaty on Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge is the first international document that directly addresses the relationship between the established intellectual property rights framework and genetic resources./ IRNA
