Commemoration of Ferdowsi, the great Persian poet, held in Philippines
Pars Today – A ceremony honoring Hakim Abolqasem Ferdowsi (the great Persian poet) and the Persian Language Day was held in Manila with the collaboration of Iran’s cultural attaché in the Philippines, the Sa'adi Foundation, and the Linguistics Department of the University of the Philippines.
Abdolmajid Abolghasemi, Iran’s Cultural Attaché in the Philippines and Representative of the Sa'adi Foundation, speaking at a ceremony in Manila honoring Ferdowsi and commemorating Persian Language Day, emphasized the ancient heritage of the Persian language. He stated that Persian language is one of the oldest languages in the world, and has always served not only as a means of communication, but also as a bearer of culture, literature, philosophy, and thought. Referring to Ferdowsi’s pivotal role in preserving the Persian language, Abolghasemi said that Hakim Ferdowsi was not only a great poet, but also a guardian of Iranian identity and culture. He added that the Shahnameh, Ferdowsi’s enduring masterpiece, rescued the Persian language from the threat of oblivion. (IRIB news agency)
