Portuguese FM: Lisbon always open to recognizing the state of Palestine
Pars Today – Portugal’s Foreign Minister said Friday evening that his country has always supported, and will continue to support, the recognition of the State of Palestine.
Paulo Rangel, recalling that Portugal will participate in a conference scheduled for July 28–30 in New York, hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, said the event will address the two-state solution involving two independent and recognized countries in a region currently engulfed in war. He emphasized, “This conference is now extremely important.”
The Portuguese foreign minister added that the Prime Minister of Portugal had previously outlined a set of conditions for recognizing the State of Palestine, which are similar to those set forth by France.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday: “In line with our historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in West Asia, France has decided to recognize the State of Palestine and will officially announce this at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September.”
