Iran and Russia consult on strengthening media cooperation and combating fake news
Pars Today – The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Moscow met on Tuesday with the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to discuss the development of media cooperation and the fight against fake news.
Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Moscow, and Maria Zakharova, spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during this meeting elaborated on recent developments regarding the potential for media activity, explored ways to expand media cooperation, and discussed methods of media influence and joint efforts to better understand public opinion in both countries.
The two sides also addressed media provocations aimed at undermining Iran-Russia relations, examined strategies for countering fake news and destructive information campaigns, and exchanged suggestions on the matter.
At the beginning of the meeting, Jalali referred to the fabrications of Western media—particularly Axios—regarding Tehran-Moscow relations, and expressed gratitude for the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement on the issue.
In response to the Axios news site’s claim that the Russian president had asked Iran to cooperate with the U.S. on a nuclear deal involving zero-percent enrichment, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement asserting that such claims are nothing but a “dirty political campaign.”
