  • Resistance, the key to overcome aggressors in Yemen: Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani

Tehran's interim Friday Prayers Leader hailed the Yemeni nation's resistance against the Saudi-led aggressors, which has made them retreat from their positions, saying the victory will finally be for the Yemenis.

According to Mehr News Agency, addressing the Friday Prayer sermon in Tehran, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahhedi Kermani, said Yemeni nation’s praiseworthy resistance against the perpetrators has made the US, Saudi Arabia and their allies retreat from their positions against the war-torn country.

Hailing the concept of resistance as a key factor to overcome the aggressors, the religious scholar said deterring the terrorists in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine and Yemen, and preventing the US and its allies from attacking Iran are among the results of resistance in regional countries.

He noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s victories through the past forty years are also the fruits of the country’s resistance against the ambitions of the global arrogance.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani condemned the Indian government’s recent decision to strip Indian-controlled Kashmir region of its special constitutional status as an “obnoxious” move, warning Indian authorities against the use of excessive force against Muslims there.

He said, "We call on the Indian authorities to refrain from harsh treatment of Muslims as it will neither be in its interest nor that of the region."

On Monday, a presidential decree revoked Article 370 of India's constitution, which guaranteed special rights to the Muslim-majority Kashmir region, including the right to its own constitution and autonomy to make laws on all matters, except defense, communications and foreign affairs.

India dispatched thousands of additional troops to the disputed Himalayan region in the wake of the move, declaring a strict curfew, shutting down telecommunications and internet, and arresting political leaders as well as pro-independence campaigners.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, in return, censured India's 'illegal' Kashmir move, vowing to fight the decision, including at the UN Security Council.

Khan said the move was in breach of international law, adding that he feared ethnic cleansing by India.
