  • Iran serious about achieving ‘good’ agreement in Vienna talks: Amir-Abdollahian

Iran’s foreign minister says the country is taking part in the new round of the Vienna talks on the removal of US sanctions with serious determination to achieve a “good and effective” agreement.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a Monday meeting with the visiting Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, during which the two sides discussed regional and international developments as well as issues of mutual interest.

Referring to the presence of the Iranian delegation in the ongoing talks on the removal of anti-Iran sanctions in the Austrian capital, Iran’s top diplomat said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is taking part in these negotiations with serious determination in order to clinch a good and effective agreement.”

He also thanked the Russian side for its effective role in the Vienna negotiations.

Amir-Abdollahian described as “effective and useful” cooperation between the Islamic Republic and the Russian Federation in regional issues. He also expressed Iran’s readiness to host the summit of the Astana Peace Process and the meeting of the foreign ministers of the guarantors of the Astana process on Syria, emphasizing that Moscow and Tehran see eye to eye in this regard.

Kazakhstan is set to host a fresh round of talks between the Syrian government and the opposition aimed at ending the years-long foreign-backed militancy in the Arab country.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi announced on November 4 that the next meeting on Syria will be held in the capital Nur-Sultan in mid-December, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported.

The top Kazakh diplomat said that the meeting would bring together the guarantors of the Astana process namely Iran, Russia and Turkey.

In his meeting with the Iranian foreign minister, Bogdanov said the friendly ties between the two countries are based on long-standing relations and have strongly continued.

Expressing satisfaction of his country’s officials with the high level of relations between the two sides, the Russian diplomat said, "We are willing to be apprised of the views of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding regional developments."
