Iran’s FM urges development of Tehran-Sofia ties
Iran’s Foreign Minister called for expansion of bilateral and international relations between Tehran and Sofia.
According to Tasnim news agency, Hossein Amirabdollahian in a message on Wednesday warmly congratulated his Bulgarian counterpart Teodora Genchovska on the European country’s National Day.
His message said the longtime historical ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Bulgaria have created strong bonds between the two countries, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The message added that the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties this year will mark a turning point in the relationship between Tehran and Sofia.
“I hope that by using this capacity, we will witness the development and strengthening of bilateral and international ties of the two countries more than ever before in all political, economic and cultural spheres and in line with the interests of the two nations,” he went on to say.
In a telephone conversation with Amirabdollahian in September 2021, then Bulgarian Foreign Minister Svetlan Stoev expressed his country’s readiness to broaden relations with Iran.
Amirabdollahian also stressed the need to enhance the trade relations between Tehran and Sofia considering the two nations’ capacities.
The two senior diplomats also weighed plans to convene a consultative political committee, hold a meeting of the Joint Economic Commission, launch direct flights between the two countries, and pave the way for cooperation in the industrial, scientific, technological and tourism sectors.
