Tehran holds conference in solidarity with Palestinians

'Gaza; the symbol of resistance'. This is the title of a conference held in Tehran. Attended by Iranian officials and members of Palestinian resistance groups, the event seeks to shed light on Palestinians' suffering under more than seven decades of Israeli occupation, with Gaza bearing the title of an icon for the struggle for freedom.

The event is held on the anniversary of the 22-day resistance in the Gaza Strip in late 2008 and early 2009, where Palestinians resisted Israel's military offensive.

This year's edition of the annual conference seeks to recognize late Iranian Lt. General Qassem Soleimani's role in strengthening the Resistance Axis in Palestine.

Lt. General Soleimani was assassinated along with his fellow comrades in January 2020 near Baghdad International Airport in a drone strike launched by the US.

The Iranian military commander spearheaded major operations in Syria and Iraq that led to the defeat of Daesh and recapturing of key areas from the terror group.
