Tajikistan lauds Iran-Saudi détente
Tajikistan's foreign minister hailed the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, expressing his country’s willingness to promote relations with Tehran in various fields.
According to Tasnim news agency, Sirojiddin Muhriddin and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian held a meeting on the sidelines of the 4th meeting of Afghanistan's neighboring countries in Samarkand on Thursday to talk about the bilateral issues and regional developments.
Congratulating Amir-Abdollahian on the holy month of Ramadhan and Nowruz, Muhriddin expressed pleasure with the recent agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia to restore their diplomatic relations.
The top Tajik diplomat also spoke about cooperation between his country and Iran in different spheres and said the government in Dushanbe is interested in expanding and boosting ties with Tehran.
Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, described the 15th session of the Iran-Tajikistan Joint Commission, held last year, as a factor in expanding and strengthening ties between the two countries.
He also applauded the cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan in the international organizations, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The two senior diplomats also exchanged views about the major regional issues, closer relations in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the issues relating to Afghanistan. They both noted that the developments in Afghanistan are a common concern for Iran and Tajikistan.
