The opening ceremony of the 5th edition of prestigious Mustafa Prize was held in the Iranian city of Isfahan on Friday evening, with the presence of Iran's President Ebrahim Raeisi.

The Mustafa Prize was established in 2012 and has since become a symbol of scientific excellence for Iran and other Muslim nations.

Since 2015, it has been held biennially.

The prize pays tribute to leading researchers and scientists of the Islamic world. Laureates are awarded $500,000, financed through the science and technology endowment. In addition to the monetary award, they will also be adorned with the Mustafa Medal and an Honorary Diploma.

The prize is awarded in four categories. In 2016, Science Magazine referred to the prize as “Muslim Nobel.”
