November 3 is the symbol of three important events in the history of Iran; namely, the sending to exile of Imam Khomeini in Turkey by the Pahlavi regime in 1963, martyrdom of a number of students by the regime in 1978 and capturing of the US den of espionage [wrongly called embassy] in 1979 by the university students following the path of Imam Khomeini (God's mercy upon him).
After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, to commemorate the martyrs of November 3 and the high importance of this fateful day, November 3 was named as the Student Day and National Day of Struggle against Arrogance.
According to Iranians, November 3 is reminiscent of epic and self-sacrifice of students of the country.
People of the Islamic Iran, every year commemorate this day with nationwide demonstrations and show their national unity and Islamic solidarity while chanting the message of the Islamic Revolution, i.e. "Independence, Freedom, Islamic Republic" and fighting [the global] Arrogance.

Imam Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, too, said in one of his speeches about November 3, "13th of Aban (November 3) was the day of collapse of the American awe and American Arrogance in Iran and the world."
