Pars Today – Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the unity of the Iranian people in the face of attacks by the United States and Israel.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Putin told representatives of foreign media in Saint Petersburg on Thursday evening that he hopes diplomatic efforts will ultimately lead to a resolution of the conflict in West Asia.

The Russian president described Iran as a friendly country that enjoys close and trusting relations with Russia.

Meanwhile, Fyodor Shchyokin, the head of the Republic of Dagestan, met with Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, on the sidelines of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

During the meeting, Shchyokin described the Islamic Republic of Iran as Dagestan’s leading foreign partner and called for the further expansion of economic, trade, and cultural cooperation between Dagestan and Iran.

Jalali also referred to the importance of the port of Makhachkala in Dagestan in developing trade relations between Iran and Russia, describing cooperation with the region of Dagestan as important for Iran. He emphasized the role of this region in strengthening and expanding the North–South Corridor and facilitating trade between the two countries.

During his ongoing visit to Saint Petersburg, Iran’s ambassador to Moscow also met and held talks with Alexey Russkikh, Governor of Ulyanovsk Oblast in Russia. In the meeting, Jalali highlighted the importance of the North–South Corridor and described the role of Ulyanovsk Province in this route as significant, announcing Iran’s readiness to expand interprovincial cooperation between the two countries.

The Governor of Ulyanovsk, expressing satisfaction with the growth of trade between Iran and Russia, also declared the province’s readiness to cooperate with Iranian provinces in investment and joint production projects.
