Brazilian president meets with Iranian foreign minister
Pars Today – The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran has traveled to Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit.
The 17th BRICS Summit, held under the slogan “Peace, Security, and Reform of Global Governance,” began on Friday in Rio de Janeiro, hosted by Brazil, and concluded on Saturday. According to Pars Today, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was welcomed upon arrival at the summit venue by Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil.
Russia
On the sidelines of the summit, Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, met and held talks with his Iranian counterpart. Araghchi in this meeting, highlighted the consequences of the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the U.S., emphasizing Iran’s determination to defend the country decisively and hold the aggressors accountable.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also stressed that the Zionist regime and the U.S. have dealt a severe blow to the principles of the UN Charter, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime. He called on the UN Security Council and all nations to fulfill their responsibilities in safeguarding international peace and security.
Lavrov, in turn, reiterated Russia’s condemnation of illegal attacks against Iran, including those targeting its peaceful nuclear facilities. He emphasized the need for measures to prevent further escalation of tensions in the region and expressed Russia’s readiness to assist, including at the UN Security Council level.
India
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs, also met with Araghchi on the sidelines of the BRICS summit to discuss issues of mutual interest.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on bilateral Iran–India relations as well as the latest developments in West Asia following the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran.
Brazil
Mauro Vieira, Brazil’s Foreign Minister, was another official who held talks with Araghchi. The Iranian Foreign Minister thanked Brazil for hosting the 17th BRICS Summit and praised the organization’s role in strengthening multilateralism and the rule of law in global governance. He also stressed the importance of continued Iran-Brazil cooperation, both bilaterally and within international organizations.
Vieira reaffirmed Brazil’s firm stance in condemning the military aggression against Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, particularly targeting its peaceful nuclear facilities. He also emphasized the UN Security Council’s responsibility to uphold international peace and security.
Turkey
Hakan Fidan, Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, also met and held talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and Iran as well as the latest developments in West Asia following the military aggression by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran.
The two sides also emphasized the urgent need to end the genocide in the occupied Palestinian territories and to hold the Zionist regime accountable and punish it for committing heinous crimes.
Egypt and China
The Prime Ministers of Egypt and China also held separate meetings with Araghchi on the sidelines of the summit.
