Pezeshkian: Iran has been and remains ready to find a diplomatic solution regarding its peaceful nuclear program
Pars Today – The President of Iran emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been, and continues to be, ready to find a diplomatic solution for the peaceful resolution of its peaceful nuclear program.
Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, said on Monday at the Shanghai Plus meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, China:
"I declare that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been, and remains, ready to find a diplomatic solution for its peaceful nuclear program."
Pezeshkian, stating that the Iranian people in past years, and specifically in recent months, have tasted the bitter experience of attempts to impose peace through power by means of various sanctions and military aggression, added:
"Over the past two decades, despite acting within the framework of its legal rights, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always made every effort to resolve existing ambiguities through dialogue and negotiation. Nevertheless, this past June we were subjected to aggression, even as the United States hypocritically sat at the negotiating table with Iran."
He continued: “At present, we are being threatened by European countries with the re-imposition of international sanctions, even though they have shown no practical or effective commitment to their obligations. In contrast, the nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been subjected to the most extensive international inspections. For this reason, our expectation is that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the independent countries of the world will play their effective and responsible role in the face of these injustices.”
Diplomacy is the only solution; snapback is tension-provoking
The President of Iran added: “The failed resort by the United States and the Zionist regime to military aggression demonstrated that the military option is ineffective and will be met with the heroic resistance of the Iranian people. Resort to the mechanism known as snapback will only lead to further complications and heightened tensions. We advise the United States and Europe to set aside confrontation-based approaches and to turn to diplomacy in order to reach a balanced and fair solution.”
Without finding a just solution to the Palestine issue, no plan for peace and justice in the world will come to fruition
The President of Iran said: “We once again emphasize that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization must pursue peace-building initiatives in its surrounding world in a more organized manner. As one of the most important independent and justice-seeking institutions globally, the Organization must especially have a clear and comprehensive plan for managing the longstanding crisis in West Asia and the painful issue of the deliberate killing and starvation of innocent people in Gaza and across Palestine.”
According to Pezeshkian: “It is now completely evident that without finding a just solution to the Palestine issue, no plan for peace and justice in the world will reach a conclusion. Our solution has always been the participation of all the original inhabitants of Palestine in free elections to realize the right to self-determination as the most fundamental principle of international law.”
The necessity of equal rights and representation for all countries in global governance
In another part of his remarks, Pezeshkian stated: “Our world is in need of a new understanding and framework for global cooperation. Such a framework must first move away from a logic based on power and replace it with a logic based on equality and justice. All countries, regardless of their size or wealth, must enjoy equal rights and representation in global governance.”
Fortunately, the prevailing discourse in the discussions and statements of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, thanks to the attention of all its members, has always been based on achieving peace and security through justice and development.
From this perspective, we are hopeful that after reaching a common understanding and establishing multiple mechanisms, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will place greater emphasis on the quality of its role in important global issues—especially those that clearly undermine justice and development in the world—and will display its role with greater clarity.
The President of Iran added: “In addition, the expansion of cooperation with the countries of the Global South, especially in the area of financial cooperation and joint investment in infrastructure, must be placed more seriously on the agenda of the Organization. We believe that, given its existing capacities, the Organization can become a coordinating center and a decisive hub in the field of utilizing modern technologies and artificial intelligence. The Islamic Republic of Iran, with its vast scientific capital, energy resources, and transit position, also possesses the necessary readiness for cooperation in these fields. Iran’s location at the central junction between East and West provides a significant geographical advantage for linking transit routes within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. This, together with the exceptional stability and security in Iran, can serve as an important basis for connecting the Belt and Road’s transport lines and integrating Iran into this initiative.”
