Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team becomes world champion
Pars Today – The Iranian national freestyle wrestling team has claimed an early victory at the World Championships.
On Monday, one day before the conclusion of the tournament, Iran secured the championship, while still maintaining chances to win additional gold medals. According to Pars Today, at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, the Iranian freestyle team has so far earned one gold, one silver, and three bronze medals. With Rahman Amouzad and Amir Ali Azarpira advancing to the finals, Iran secured the early world championship, finishing ahead of the United States.
This marks the sixth world championship for Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team. Previously, Iran claimed the world title in 1961, 1965, 1998, 2002, and 2013.
Additionally, the Iranian freestyle team has finished as runner-up nine times (in 1971, 1973, 1995, 2006, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2022, and 2023) and has placed third fourteen times in the history of the World Championships.
President Pezeshkian congratulates Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team
On Monday night, Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, issued a message congratulating the national freestyle wrestling team on their victory at the World Championships in Croatia.
He emphasized: “The pride-inspiring championship of the brave men of Iran’s national freestyle wrestling team, who claimed the world title for the sixth time in history after 12 years, has once again placed the name of dear Iran at the pinnacle of global sports, bringing joy and pride to the hearts of the great Iranian nation.”
