Pars Today – A member of the presidium of Tehran’s Islamic City Council emphasized the importance of the historical and strategic relations between Iran and Russia.
Jafar Bandi Sharabiani, a member of the presidium of Tehran’s Islamic City Council, emphasized the importance of historical and strategic relations between Iran and Russia in an interview with TV BRICS during the Iranian delegation’s visit to Moscow.
According to Pars Today, he said that recent cooperation, both within the BRICS framework and bilaterally, demonstrates that the two countries play an important and influential role in shaping a new global order.
Sharabiani, referring to the expansion of cooperation in various fields such as technology, economy, finance, and urban management over the past 20 to 30 years, emphasized that energy remains at the top of their shared priorities.
He cited the Bushehr nuclear power plant as a prominent example of this cooperation and said that the project is being equipped with the help of Russian experts. Sharabiani expressed hope that the power plant will be fully operational soon.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant, Iran’s first nuclear power plant and the first in West Asia, began construction in 1975. After a long hiatus, Iran and Russia agreed in 1992 to continue the project. In 2011, the plant’s first unit became operational, and now Rosatom is constructing the second and third units.
According to Rosatom, in September 2025, Iran and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding to build small nuclear power plants. Additionally, in October, Mohammad Eslami, head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, announced that the sites for these plants have been identified and expressed hope that the final contract will be signed soon.
