Araghchi: Munich Security Conference has turned into a “circus”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi
Pars Today – Iran’s Foreign Minister said it is regrettable that the Munich Security Conference, traditionally regarded as a serious and reputable event, has turned into a “Munich circus” when it comes to Iran.
Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X that the decline of the Munich Security Conference, where appearances are prioritized over substance, carries important messages. He added that this approach reflects Europe’s role and position in regional developments.
The head of Iran’s foreign policy apparatus, referring to what he called the “confusion of the European Union,” attributed this situation to the EU’s inability to understand domestic developments in Iran.
From a strategic perspective, the Iranian Foreign Minister also described the EU as lacking a clear direction, noting that it has lost a significant portion of its geopolitical influence in the region. According to Araghchi, Germany, in this process, is moving toward fully ceding its regional policy to the Israeli regime.
Araghchi described Europe’s overall policy trajectory as “serious and concerning,” adding that the practical consequence of this situation is a reduced influence of the European Union and the European Troika in matters related to Iran’s nuclear negotiations.
The head of Iran’s diplomacy noted that while Europe was previously one of the main parties in the talks, it now plays a diminished role in the negotiation process with Iran. In contrast, friendly countries in the region have acted far more effectively than the European Troika.
The Iranian Foreign Minister said that these developments and the current situation signal Europe’s marginalization in key issues concerning Iran.
