Pars Today – The Commander of the Iranian Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, stressed during a meeting with his Indian counterpart that lasting maritime security can only be guaranteed through cooperation and synergy among regional countries.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the remarks were made on the sidelines of the international “Milan 2026” naval exercise.

During the meeting with Dinesh K Tripathi, Commander of the Indian Navy, Irani underlined the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to achieve sustainable maritime security.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding training cooperation, exchanging military delegations, holding joint specialized courses, and increasing operational interactions in areas such as maritime search and rescue, counter-piracy efforts, and ensuring the security of international shipping lanes.

Rear Admiral Shahram Irani pointed to the strategic position of the Indian Ocean in global trade and stated that sustainable maritime security can only be achieved through cooperation and synergy among regional countries. He added that the active and responsible presence of naval forces can help guarantee the stability and security of vital energy and trade routes.

He also described multilateral naval exercises as an opportunity to enhance operational coordination and strengthen defense diplomacy.

The Commander of the Indian Navy, Dinesh K Tripathi, described the Milan 2026 exercise as a symbol of cooperation among friendly and partner nations. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts to confront threats such as piracy, organized smuggling, and maritime natural disasters.

During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed issues including the exchange of students between naval science and technology universities, cooperation in emerging maritime technologies, and maritime cybersecurity.
