Pars Today – The U.S. president, who had repeatedly claimed in recent days that he would not extend the ceasefire, was forced to back down and unilaterally extend the ceasefire after Iran declined to attend negotiations.

According to Pars Today, on Tuesday local time, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social account that he had extended the ceasefire with the Islamic Republic of Iran, which had been due to expire at 8 p.m. Washington time. Repeating his allegations against Tehran, Trump said: “We will extend the ceasefire until Iran presents its proposal and the talks are concluded in whatever way possible.”

Trump went on to claim that he had ordered U.S. military forces to maintain the blockade while remaining on high alert.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury, even as Washington claimed it was willing to negotiate, announced new Iran related sanctions. According to the announcement, 14 individuals, entities, and aircraft based in Iran, Turkey, and the UAE were added to the sanctions list. The U.S. president claimed he had extended the ceasefire at a time when, despite his repeated threats and baseless assertions, the Iranian delegation did not travel to Pakistan for negotiations and stated that it would not negotiate under pressure, blockade, and threats. The ceasefire declared between the Islamic Republic of Iran, the United States, and the Israeli regime on 7 April 2026, intended to provide an opportunity for diplomatic solutions to permanently end the war against Iran, was established for two weeks and has now been extended again by the United States. On Saturday, 18 April 2026, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated in an announcement: The Iranian negotiating team will not concede even a fraction, will not retreat, and will not show leniency. The Iranian team will, with all its strength, defend the interests and well being of the Iranian nation and honor the precious blood shed in this war to preserve Iran’s independence, dignity, and honor, especially the pure blood of our beloved Leader.
