The Leader's top aide for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati underscored age-old relations between Tehran and Paris, and said the two countries can expand their cooperation in the region.

"Iran enjoys good influence in the region and I think that we can have regional cooperation with France," Velayati said in a meeting with former French Foreign Minister Hubert Védrine in Tehran on Tuesday.

Stressing Iran and France's age-old relations, he said bilateral ties between the two countries have experienced different ups and downs but have never been cut.

Velayati, who is the top aid on international affairs to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, also said that Tehran is aware of Paris's positive view about the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers, warning of the US intention to violate the internationally-accepted agreement.
