In commemoration of the International Volunteers Day, the Yemeni corporation for eradicating cancer held a ceremony to advocate voluntarily social activities to ease the suffering of cancer patients.

According to Press TV, medical workers say since the beginning of the Saudi war on Yemen, the number of patients has increased as well as the mortality rate.

Arwa Mohamed who suffers from cancer, receives her weekly treatment which costs nearly 3 thousand US dollar a month. Arwa’s mother told Press TV that she’s not likely to receive the second dose of the medicine as the cancer therapy center is running out of necessary supplies.

According to medical sources from the National Cancer Therapy center, over 50 cancer medicines have already become unavailable across the country. This is while importing these medicines is another challenge due to Saudi Arabia’s ongoing war and its crippling blockade on the country.

Observers say the Saudi aggression has taken a heavy toll on Yemen's economy and its social fabric. They say mobilizing volunteers to serve in aid agencies is one of the ways to address challenges created by the years-long of the conflict.
