Syrian president receives phone call from Russian counterpart

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received a phone call from the Russian President Vladimir Putin, discussing with him the latest developments in the combat against the terrorist groups and political efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria.

The Russian president on Wednesday stressed during the call that the Russian stance towards Syria has not changed as it remains fully committed to continuing the fight against terrorism and preserving unity and territorial integrity of Syria.

President Assad, for his part, thanked the Russian president for Moscow’s efforts on the international scene despite pressures by certain countries to stop Moscow's adherence to the rule of the international law and respect for the sovereignty of states.

Assad reiterated Syria’s determination to fight terrorism in parallel with efforts to achieve reconciliation with opposing sides inside Syria and activate the political track to resolve the crisis in Syria.
