Syrian Transport Minister Ali Hammud announced that his country has resumed flights from the coastal city of Lattakia to the UAE and Kuwait.

"The resumption of flights from Lattakia's Basel al-Assad Airport to the UAE and Kuwait is an important step in facilitating the travels of the Syrian citizens and reducing their problems that were caused by the need for traveling to these destinations via Beirut airport," Hammud told reporters on Sunday.

The Syrian transport minister also said that the resumption of Lattakia's flights will also alleviate the pressures on Damascus International Airport.

Hammud noted that his ministry has plans to turn Lattakia into a modern airport which will pave the way for the landing of different types of aircraft.

In a relevant development in early December, Aleppo International Airport's Manager Basem Mansour said that the airport's technical equipment had been re-launched and the airport would soon host flights.
