Arab League says Israel 'playing with fire' at Holy Site
The Arab League has strongly condemned the Israel’s new measures against al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied Old City of Bait al-Moqaddas, stressing that the Tel Aviv regime is “playing with fire” at the highly sensitive sacred site.
“Bait al-Moqaddas is a red line,” the league's chief Ahmed Abul Gheit said in a statement released on Sunday.
He added that “no Arab or Muslim will accept violations” against holy sites in the city, the Daily Star reported.
Deadly clashes have rocked occupied Bait al-Moqaddas since Israeli authorities installed metal detectors at entrances to the Haram al-Sharif compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, following an attack on July 14, which killed two policemen.
Palestinian nationals view the measure as an Israeli attempt to assert further control over the site, the third most holy place in Islam and the most revered site in Judaism.
Abul Gheit accused the usurper regime of Israel of "adventurism" and said its moves could trigger a "crisis with the Arab and Muslim world."
The compound, which includes the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock, has been the focal point of tensions between the Zionist usurpers and Palestinians for decades.
