Hundreds of Kenyan and African mourners on Friday took part in Arba’een mourning ceremonies and processions for the Chief of Martyrs, Imam Hussein (PBUH), as well as his family and loyal companions, in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala.

Arba’een, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, comes 40 days after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH), the third Shias’ Imam.

Each year, a huge crowd of people flock to the holy city of Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (PBUH) is located, to perform mourning rites.
